A whole year after the first Venexiana deck, the story continues with a travel to the dark heart of 18th century Venice. Venexiana Dark features a series of obscure and marginal characters who complete the picture of this haunting city. Thieves, assassins, prostitutes, wicked noblemen and masters of deception are all on board in this imaginary gondola. Hop in and follow the journey to the unknown through the narrow canals of Venice.

Venexiana Dark is in fact two different decks: The "Masked" and the "Revealed" editions, with the first one featuring the courts wearing masks, while the second has the courts unmasked and their faces revealed!

There was a mixup in production which resulted in the tucks for the decks being mixed (masked card in revealed tuck and vice-versa).  This was only noticed after initial shipments were started and then shipment halted to allow the decks to be re-packaged.  As a result, some decks exist with the wrong cards in the wrong tuck, but the majority are assumed to have been corrected.

Like the previous decks in the Nouveau Series, Gemmes is inspired in the historical and mythological characters some believe were used for the creation of the first decks in Rouen during the 16th century. As for the art style, it was inspired by Art Nouveau jewelry. Art Nouveau is a style of decorative art, architecture and design promoted and popularized in Paris in the late 19th century and characterized by intricate linear designs and flowing curves based on natural forms.

The pips and number cards keep the intricate design from previous editions, with the only exception of the index pips, which take a much simpler form in order to make the cards playable.

Deco Playing Cards’ debut deck is inspired by one of the oldest-known deck of 52 playing cards from Mamluk Egypt, discovered in a museum in Istanbul. The artist of our deck is Dave Boyd, and the designer of our custom tuck box is Katy Orr.

Vegetation is an important feature in this early deck, so we have assigned a plant important to the culture and economy of Islamic empires, visible in the backgrounds and in the hands of the Queens: the Lotus for the Hearts, the Blue Egyptian Water Lily for Diamonds, the Poppy for Clubs, and the Cumin Flower for Spades.

Additionally, the original deck had different suits, which we have assigned to the Kings: the Spades shows the King of Swords, the Clubs shows the King of Polo Sticks, the Diamonds shows the King of Coins, and the Hearts shows the King of Cups.

Little known fact - Hi My Name Is Mark is a deck by Mark from the band Blink 182.

These were specially made for the wedding of Laurel Brandstetter and Ricky Smith and were given as gifts to all of the attendees. Robert-Houdin was the father of modern magic and is known for many original inventions. One of his most famous is the Orange Tree, a marvelous illusion in which an orange tree blossoms and then gives fruit right before your eyes. The effect ultimately reveals a borrowed ring inside one of the oranges, and is what inspired the way in which Ricky proposed to Laurel.

When they first appeared in 2012 for the exclusive enjoyment of members of the prestigious Folio Society, the design world fell in love. Odd Bods were playful, charming, elegant, and above all else, a joy for the eyes.

Among a number of really cool and rare decks offered to us was this amazing deck called Exquisite. The Dawson’s told us that this deck from about 1895 or so and produced by the Union Playing Card Company of New York was, as far as they knew, a one of kind. No other example had ever turned up anywhere.

The sideways tuck was love at first sight!

The back design that Union used wasn’t as much fun so we decided to replace it with a really beautiful back that had also originally come from the Art Nouveau period.

What we have now is the result of that day with Tom and Judy (and many many other great days with them!), Asi Wind’s great eye in picking out the back design and Lawrence Sullivan’s help in getting the factory that made the Legends (a true instant classic) to make our sideways tuck.

Only 1,000 decks of Classic Gold were printed, with 500 of the decks containing numbered seals. The Expert Playing Card Co. has 300 of these 1,000 decks, which 200 were made on sale at Conjuring arts. LPCC had 700 of these decks including the 500 numbered decks which are now sold out; they are selling their remaining 200 decks (Non numbered)
