Messymod, short for Messy Modernism, is a minimal approach to graphic-design conceived by Los Angeles based creative team, TRÜF. Born from their love of geometry, pattern, white space, Bauhaus, Miró and perhaps a little too much caffeine.

After being introduced to their work earlier this year we knew right away we had to collaborate on a deck. Seven months later and we couldn't be more happy with the outcome.

The playing cards feature a completely custom design in typical Messymod fashion which can be described as minimal, modern, graphic, quirky, stylized, grotesque, delightful and just plain weird.

In the early 1500s Leonardo Da Vinci illustrated "La Divina" (The Divine Proportion) a book written by mathematician Luca Pacioli that described a mathematical theory called "The Golden Ratio" which was used in Renaissance paintings and sculptures to achieve balance and beauty. Da Vinci later called this Section Aurea or the Golden Section. The gold foil and swirl designs on the tuck bring the Golden ratio to life in this unique deck of cards. Aureo deck features unique designs inspired by the art of the Renaissance and the Golden Ratio.

Memento Mori NXS brings back acclaimed artist Adrian Valenzuela, art designer behind the original Memento Mori. With Memento Mori NXS, he takes low-poly designs to a whole new level by infusing abstract shapes with realism of light and shadow. The result is a beautifully modern design reminiscent of classical impressionism, yet grounded with purpose and inspiration. Chris Ramsay, internet legend, designed his own cards, and this is what he created. Memento Mori is Latin for “remember you will die” and this philosophy is reflected in the amazing design of these cards. Featuring two isometric human skulls. Following the success of the Joker and the Thief reprints, we have decided we want to focus on more original designs heading into the future. Since the beginning of our brand, we have developed a list of themes that we’ve wanted to explore. Nautical is one of them, and the perfect opportunity arose when we began collaborating with Gustavo Magalhães. As a passionate artist hailing from Brazil, Gus was keen to bring the concept to life and carry the symbolism, characters and vibe over to Seafarers.

We wanted to create a classic deck of cards reminiscent of vintage United States Playing Card Co. designs. We intentionally went this route because of how classic designs survive the test of time. Gus was instrumental in striking the balance between classic design and our signature vibe.
