Luminosity Playing Cards is a custom deck with a story. Created by Jody Eklund and written by Ricky Cassford. The deck reveals an allegory depicting the age-old conflict between good and evil. Visually inspired by Norse mythology, we have created a rich narrative representative of a deeper spiritual meaning that is brought to life through this set of unique and custom-illustrated playing cards.

A medieval deck has taken form in the hands of the royal court masters. A tribute to knightly piety, bravery and the ceremonial jousts are brought to the table in highly detailed Code of Arms. The Knights of the Realm are depicted in honor of their duties and loyalty to the great King by having their iconic helmets illustrated on the court cards.

Designed for magicians, cardists, collectors, and science nerds alike, Elemental Playing Cards are an homage to the simple beauty of the periodic table — and a nod towards the many ways it mirrors a deck of playing cards.

Elements from the periodic table can be rearranged to form any substance in the known universe, each with their own unique properties; playing cards can be rearranged and placed in different orders and sequences to create different hands. Both feature symbols and numbers. And both live within an order and structure.

Elemental Playing Cards exists to explore these similarities, starting with the first (and arguably most important) element from the periodic table: Hydrogen (H). Subsequent releases will showcase other elements individually.

The Danegeld (Danish tax/Dane tribute) was a tax raised to pay tribute to the Viking raiders to save a land from being ravaged. It was called the geld or gafol in eleventh-century sources. It was characteristic of royal policy in both England and Francia during the ninth through eleventh centuries, collected both as tributary, to buy off the attackers, and as stipendiary, to pay the defensive forces. Almost always paid in silver because the vikings used this metal as their main currency for trade. Yggdrasil is the iconic ash tree of Norse mythology.
