The text on these cards by Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) has delighted children and the literary elite for over a century. Sir John Tenniel (1820-1914) is one of the most famous illustrators in English literature.

My project is about storytelling - it's about Alice's continued adventures in Wonderland to be precise. Fairy tales make for a great entertaining medium, and growing up I was fascinated by them. I want to take that same love and passion we all reminisce about and put them into a deck of playing cards - the cards that come from my vision of Wonderland. Inspired by Lewis Carroll's (Charles Dodgson) original Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, I wanted to take this classic story further, by continuing Alice's Adventures as a young lady who earns the title - "Alice of Wonderland". My deck of playing cards, as well as my main story, has a Steampunk Wonderland theme. I am keeping the traditional de la Rue design style by only illustrating the face cards and keeping the numbered cards basic, but with a hint of Wonderland.

Why Steampunk in Wonderland? The original Wonderland story was written and set in the late 1800's Victorian era. The genre of Steampunk derives from that same era so it ties in nicely with the Wonderland theme. However, my deck of Wonderland playing cards is part of a larger picture, one that tells the story of the continuing adventures of Alice. In this more mature setting, Alice is now a young lady and the world she remembers from Wonderland has changed, everything is now Steampunk - but still Wonderland. The 4 main kingdoms of Hearts, Clubs, Spades, and Diamonds, rule Wonderland. I am including Alice, the Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, and the White Rabbit as the Joker playing cards illustrated in full pose and in the same black and white line art as the royal face cards.

Steve originally submitted this deck for us after he created it is a promotional piece for his son's elementary school's stage production of Alice in Wonderland. After falling in love with the deck, we approached Steve to launch this stunning promotional deck into a produced campaign, with a portion of the proceeds going to Loyal Heights Elementary School.

These limited edition playing cards, designed by Turnstyle, are inspired by Lewis Caroll’s classic fairy tale Alice in Wonderland. Modern styling combined with lavish Art Nouveau/Art Deco ornamentation transport us down the rabbit hole to a surreal world presided over by the Queen of Hearts. Iconic quotes from the story are peppered throughout the deck and on the tuck box. Court cards feature typographic royals with custom suit symbols as crowns. Attention to typographical nuances, including a bespoke “double” typeface, are evocative of the mysterious parallel worlds of both Wonderland and cardistry—where sleight of hand means that what you see is not necessarily what you get.

Timothy Walter “Tim” Burton is an American film director, film producer, artist, writer and animator. He has his own specific style of horror and fantasy movies. As a rule his films are full of dark, gothic, macabre and quirky elements. So Tim’s Alice in Wonderland (2010) happened to be a quite unique interpretation of the novel supported by Walt Disney Pictures and some other companies.

The deck: 52 different playing cards + 3 Jokers + 1 ad card. Poker size. Playing cards are printed on casino cardboard and have a smooth finish. The box has Fournier’s traditional design.

All aces have French (in some way traditional for them) indices  – “1” instead of “A”. Ace is a lower card in each suit for many European card games. So “1” was used on aces to indicate that aces have lower value than “2”.

The design phase started with drawings by George Sikes and Eric Siddall who agreed to help do the art work for the project.  What we've brought to you is a deck of playing cards with custom backs, faces, pips, and tuck box that can be used to play chess. We've also created a custom game board that is made to be used with playing cards. This is final design that we are very proud to share with you

It is a collaboration Bicycle with the movie "Gremlins" which was popular in the 80s. The logo of the Gremlin and its silhouette are drawn at the card back. Gizmo and Gremlin are drawn in the various places at the card faces.

These playing/gift/souviner cards (Сувенирные карты) 17th Century (XVII століття) are from the Ukraine produced by NoirArts / Roman Kotiv under another brand for the local Ukraine market.  UPC 4820138450036

Printed on red stock, with black foil on the back, black and gold foil embellishments for the face cards.

These decks were test runs from the Apothecary Purified Primavera Ponderings deck which used a super soft cotton using a non metallic full engraved tuck box . It also used the color changing technology of the production deck, but due to the thicker cotton paper the color change not as responsive in certain conditions. 60 decks were created for both the Inverno Insights and the Primavera Ponderings decks for this proof run. Alex Chin, of Seasons Playing Cards and Portfolio 52, gilded them in various different colors and signed & numbered them as x/60 for each deck. These decks were/are being sent to reward key contributors at Portfolio 52 and Seasons. Additional decks will be sent out as the points system on Portfolio 52 is updated and contributions can be better calculated. As a result, these decks are known as the 'Prototype and Thanks' edition and can be identified by the white label (vs black on original decks), the signature & hand numbering inside the tuck and custom gilding color which will vary within each set of 60. Could include known gold, but also possibly include silver, green, red, etc. While originally created in 2016 to prepare for the first Apothecary decks, they were not distributed until starting in 2018.
