ABOUT THIS DECK
Inspired by the artistry of Rhodin, Epic tales of biblical proportions, and the profound triptychs of yesteryear; this collection uses digital art and modern manufacturing technologies to bring legacy artforms forward into the present.
By blending religious storytelling, tactile craft, and mesmerizing print into something meant to be both played and displayed. PRIDE explores the ancient sin of Pride through the lens of Lucifer as he falls from the radiant Morning Star to the Monarch of Hell. Across three unique decks, 12 Court cards, and a series of custom-made objets d'art, witness THE epic transformation rendered in intricate, narrative artwork.
The Decks from the Gates of Hell:
- Numbers: Featuring a black letter font widely used in European manuscripts and early printing from the 12th - 20th century. Also, the Ace of Spades feature enlarged, hand-drawn custom illustration of Lucifer.
- Courts: Featuring connecting artworks that can form into a panoramic triptych for each set of Courts in a suit, but a full panoramic story by connecting all of the Courts.
- Hearts = Act I: Grace - The Morning Star walks among angels.
- Diamonds = Act II: Doubt - The heart begins to rebel.
- Clubs = Act III: Fall - Chaos, war, and ruin.
- Spades = Act IV: Dominion - Hell is claimed.
- Tuck Box: Crafted from a range of specialized papers, each offers subtle visual distinctions that are appreciated. The front side features a die-cut window to see the sinister scene of the card's back design when stored in. When the cards are out, you can see the original sketch of the back design inside, along with illustration of the Morning Star as you open the flap and peek inside.
- Back Design: Features two way illustration featuring Lucifer himself with all of the other demons within the Gates of Hell. The painstaking detailed illustration was done by traditional drawings, then constructed into 3D model, and then applied with the main feature of these decks: photolithography foil.
The cards are printed on 280gsm Japanese Black Core paper. To accommodate the photolithography process, the cards doesn't feature air-cushion finish.
